ABOUT

Portrait of choreographer Andrea Peña

Andrea Peña, choreographer and artist (born in Bogotá, Colombia; based between Paris, France and Montréal, Canada), develops a practice at the intersection of choreography, design, and cultural inquiry. Her work proposes new forms of storytelling through the construction of immersive, interdisciplinary environments.

She is the founder and artistic director of Andrea Peña & Artists (AP&A), a Montréal-based contemporary dance company established in 2014. Through AP&A, Peña brings together artists from diverse disciplines to create choreographic worlds that unfold within constructed, spatial, and scenographic systems.

Peña’s work is informed by her background in industrial design, which she integrates into her choreographic practice to explore the body as both material and agent. Drawing from Colombian ancestral memory, her creations engage the body as a site of hybridity, resistance, and transformation.

Her body of work includes REPLICA, BOGOTÁ, UAQUE, and 6.58: MANIFESTO, developed within the framework of Andrea Peña & Artists. These works situate performers within environments that challenge conventional notions of embodiment, collectivity, and spatial dynamics.

Andrea Peña’s work has been presented internationally across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. She is the recipient of the Ballet BC Choreographer Award (2024) and the New Choreographies Award at La Biennale di Venezia – Danza (2023). In 2026, she was named a laureate of the CHANEL Next Prize, recognizing her contribution to the evolution of contemporary artistic practice.
